Who are we?

Further East Consult (FEC) is a Netherlands-registered company with over 30 years experience in business facilitation in Southeast Asia. Based on practical experiences and a deep understanding of the geo-economic climate in Southeast Asia, FEC provides tailor-made advisory services, training and management support for enterprises, governments, NGOs and Embassies.

CEO Matthijs van den Broek has lived and worked in Southeast Asia for over 10 years. He set up and ran his own sports marketing company in Bangkok in the Nineties (of last Century) and expanded his decade-long grassroots knowlegde of economic and business development in Thailand and neighbouring countries to consultancy and training programs for multinationals and government agencies.  In his Bangkok years, he co-published sports & leisure news bulletin, Active World, which led, in 2005, to initiating e-magazine Business Trends Asia, which he published from 2005-2015. Matthijs regularly travels to Southeast Asia to speak and lecture on business opportunities and geo-economic developments in the region. Recently, in Vietnam, he consulted the Netherlands Embassy on strategy development and conducted leadership courses throughout the country. As thé ASEAN expert in The Netherlands, Matthijs is a frequent speaker at economic conferences. Matthijs is guest lecturer at Binus University in Jakarta, Indonesia, and University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business in Athens, Georgia, U.S.A. . He has held advisory and board positions at the Dutch Business Association Vietnam and the Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce and is currently member of the Advisory Board of the Amsterdam School of International Business as well as market research programs of the Maastricht University and the University of Groningen.
